Tequila

Would you believe it if someone told you that a shot of your favorite tequila actually came from a giant plant with spiky barbs? Tequila is made exclusively from blue Weber agave (Agave tequilana). The well-known Mexican places where most tequila is produced are Michoacan, Tamaulipas, Guanajuato, Nayarit, and Jalisco. Unlike the aging process for various spirits, the time it takes for tequila production goes into plant cultivation.

The agave plant is a succulent in the lily family. The plant's piña or heart lies below the ground. After unearthing this large bulb, it is roasted and juiced in the distillery. Most agave plants mature in around 8 to 10 years. The flowers of the plant are usually removed to strengthen the sugar concentration present in the piña.
