Rice Wine
Rice Wine Production
You may have had your first taste of sake or other rice wine as a delicious accompaniment to a Japanese or Korean meal at a favorite restaurant. Rice wine is also an excellent drink alongside cuisine made at home. Unlike European wines made from fruit, rice wine is made from the fermentation of rice starches. Because of this, rice wine is often compared to beer, which also derives from fermented grains. In fact, as rice wine is being made, rice starches must be converted first into sugars, very similar to the process of beer production.
Types of Rice Wines
Just like grape wine, rice wine brings people together, provides an excellent accent to any meal and carries a wide array of particular tastes and flavors. However, this type of wine has a higher alcohol content than other wine. Some types of rice wine include sake, makkoli and soju; perhaps the best-known type of rice wine is the Japanese-style sake. We have a wide selection of sakes of all types available for shipping to your door. We offer both unfiltered nigori and filtered sake rice wine; unfiltered sake has a fuller, sweeter taste and is the favorite of many sake drinkers.
Korean Rice Wines
We also offer a full assortment of Korean rice wine like soju and makkoli. Soju, similar to a sweet-tasting vodka, is the most popular Korean alcoholic beverage; we also have makkoli, a milky drink that is Korea's oldest traditional style of rice wine. If you're not sure which one is right for your preferences, we're here to help you make your choice.
