Tiberio Montepulciano d'Abruzzo 2023 750ml

V93

Tiberio Montepulciano d'Abruzzo 2023 750ml is an expressive, terroir-driven Italian red from Agricola Tiberio in Cugnoli, Abruzzo. Made from 100% massal-selection Montepulciano, it combines generous fruit with freshness, mineral character, and refined structure.

Brilliant ruby red with violet highlights, the wine offers intense aromas and flavors of sour red cherry, blueberry, violet, and flint. The palate is full-bodied yet energetic, with smooth tannins and a long, fresh finish that keeps the ripe fruit beautifully balanced.

The Montepulciano is hand harvested from vineyards approximately 350 meters above sea level on clay-calcareous soils. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel with indigenous yeasts, followed by spontaneous malolactic fermentation. The wine is aged in stainless steel and bottle rather than oak, then bottled unfined and unfiltered.

Pair with pasta and meat sauces, roast chicken, grilled meats, venison, lamb, pizza, or aged cheeses. Its combination of dark fruit, acidity, and savory mineral character makes it a versatile Italian red for both casual dinners and more substantial meals.

Vinous

"Purple-hued and deeply complex, the 2023 Montepulciano d'Abruzzo has an inviting bouquet of black raspberries, cloves, dried sage and licorice. Juicy acidity lends a jovial character to sour cherries, wild berries and a tactile mineral core. It finishes long and pleasantly staining with a sour berry inflection and edgy tannins. There's a tenacity to the 2023 that keeps me coming back for more, but I'm also excited to see what cellaring will reveal."
