Pedroncelli Mother Clone Zinfandel 2021 750ml

At the heart of Pedroncelli is our commitment to Zinfandel, embodied by the Mother Clone Vineyard. Planted in the early 1900s, it reflects the roots of our winemaking journey. Giovanni, our founder, crafted the first post-Prohibition wine from these vines. In 1947, it became the inaugural varietal labeled under our name. The Mother Clone signifies continuity, as we use its budwood to create a second generation, weaving the tale of our vineyard through generations. This blend includes fruit from three generations of these “mother” vines, along with contributions from the Bushnell and Giovannoni vineyards.

HARVEST & WINEMAKING NOTES

The 2021 vintage, shaped by minimal rain and a warm summer, accelerated maturity, intensifying flavors and color. Hand-picked in early September, the grapes underwent a 48-hour cold soak before fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Daily pump-overs and delestage regimes maximized phenolic extraction. Aging for twelve months in American oak barrels enhanced complexity, with Petite Sirah (10%) adding depth. The result is a rich wine with intense varietal flavors, mild acids, and a distinctive Dry Creek Zin profile.

TASTING NOTES

Our Mother Clone Zinfandel is a classic 'Dry Creek' expression. Spicy aromas of ripe cinnamon and white pepper mingle with red berries and a hint of vanilla. Red cherry flavors harmonize with notes of vanilla, licorice, and warm baking spices. The signature Dry Creek Zin touch of pepper graces the rounded finish, a hallmark of our style. Enjoy now or cellar for three to five years.

"This layered, polished and handsomely oaked wine brims with aromas like vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg. These lead to lush berry and dark plum flavors on a texture of fine-grained tannins. Velvety in mouthfeel and delicious to sip, the American-oak-aged wine is best now–2028."
