Casal Garcia Vinho Verde 750ml

Casal Garcia is a Vinho Verde brand made by Aveleda in northern Portugal. Its winemaker is Diogo Campilho, and Falstaff lists the wine under Aveleda Wines.

It's a blend of four local white grapes, Trajadura, Loureiro, Arinto and Fernão Pires, grown on granitic and sandy soils. The producer doesn't publish the percentages. It's made to be drunk young, and at 9.5% alcohol it's lower in alcohol and calories than most white wines.

The producer describes it simply as light, fresh and fruity.

Serve it well chilled. The producer suggests it with fish, seafood, sushi, pasta, pizza and salads, and it works as a cocktail base too: the brand's own recipes include a Casal Garcia Tonic and a Basil Smash. Its low alcohol suits a long lunch or a picnic.
