Commencing with elevated temperatures and arid conditions in both winter and spring, the 2022 growing season at Castello della Sala unfolded under unique climatic circumstances. Despite a precipitation-free June and intermittent heat spikes, the vineyards endured without succumbing to drought stress, thanks to the favorable pedoclimatic conditions. Early August rains proved revitalizing, bestowing peak ripeness upon the grapes.
The arid climate of the year resulted in pristine, healthy berries, reducing the need for extensive vineyard upkeep and yielding fruit with a harmonious aromatic profile. The Chardonnay grape harvest for Bramìto della Sala commenced in mid-August, extending through the first week of September.
In the vinification process, the grapes underwent meticulous destemming and gentle crushing before a brief maceration at 10 °C (50 °F) for 2-4 hours to enhance flavors and extract the grape variety’s aromatic nuances. Post-clarification in stainless steel vats, distinct lots were treated separately, with some undergoing oak fermentation and others in stainless steel vats, where alcoholic fermentation transpired at a controlled 16-18 °C (61-64 °F). Exclusive to the oak-fermented lots was the malolactic fermentation stage, after which the wine was meticulously blended and bottled.
Rooted in historical significance, Bramito della Sala originates from the vineyards surrounding the medieval castle at Castello della Sala. Thriving in this terroir is the Chardonnay grape, benefiting from soils rich in fossil deposits and clay veins, imparting minerality and elegance to the wine. The inaugural vintage of Bramito della Sala dates back to 1994.
Presenting a luminous straw yellow hue, Bramìto della Sala offers an aromatic bouquet dominated by white flower blossoms, chamomile, Golden apples, and subtle vanilla hints. The palate, characterized by freshness and a delightful expression of Chardonnay’s varietal essence, ensures a thoroughly enjoyable tasting experience.
