Chartreuse Green VEP Verte 1L

V.E.P. stands for Vieillissement Exceptionnellement Prolongé, exceptionally prolonged aging. The Carthusian monks take selected Green Chartreuse, the same 130 plants, and age it for many years in large oak casks, in limited quantities each year. The range dates from 1963, and the green is bottled at 54%.

It is keenly botanical and woodsy on the nose, with peppermint, citrus peel and sage on the palate and a finish of finesse and power. The long aging softens the strength and adds woody depth.

For cocktails, use regular Green Chartreuse. The V.E.P. is for sipping, a special-occasion bottle or a gift for someone who already loves Chartreuse; production is limited and supply is tight.

The monks recommend serving it as a digestif at about 13 to 15°C, roughly 55 to 59°F, in a small glass.
