Château Guipière is a 28-hectare estate in Vallet, southeast of Nantes, founded in 1842. It is HVE3 certified, and its first certified organic harvest was 2024, so this 2023 is not certified organic.
Clos des Morinières is a single named vineyard of Melon de Bourgogne vines about 30 years old, on a gentle slope of sandy, silty soil over clay. The wine is bottled as Muscadet Sèvre-et-Maine Sur Lie after six months on its lees, the aging that gives Muscadet its texture. It's 12% alcohol.
Importer Bowler Wine describes minerals, flowers and citrus on the nose, a surprisingly fleshy palate and a long, fresh finish, and calls it quintessential Muscadet.
Against Domaine Guillaume Cabrol Picpoul de Pinet 2025, the Muscadet is a single clos aged on its lees for more texture; for a classic oyster white with depth, choose the Muscadet.
Winehouse suggests serving it chilled with oysters and grilled fish. It also works with mussels, clams and goat cheese.
