Chateau Ste. Michelle is a Washington State winery, and Harvest Select is its sweet Riesling from the Columbia Valley appellation. The winery lists it as Sweet Riesling on its own site and calls it "our Harvest Select Riesling."
It's 97% Riesling with 3% other white varieties, fermented cool, at 50 to 55°F, to preserve freshness. The winery lists about 50 grams of residual sugar per liter, a pH of 3.01 and 10.5% alcohol, which puts it in the medium-sweet range.
The winery describes ripe peach balanced by crisp Washington Riesling acidity, "like a bowl of fruit in a glass!" Harris Teeter adds apricot, mango and floral notes.
Against Chateau Ste. Michelle Riesling, Harvest Select is the medium-sweet bottling; for a sweeter Riesling with ripe peach fruit, choose Harvest Select.
Serve it well chilled. Harris Teeter suggests fresh fruit, soft cheeses and spicy dishes, so it is an easy match for Thai curries, Sichuan noodles, spicy wings or a fruit tart after dinner. At 10.5% alcohol, it also works as a light afternoon sipper.
