Decoy started its Limited range in 2020 to make small lots of wine from single named appellations, and this one comes from Alexander Valley in northern Sonoma County. It's a big step up in focus from the regular Decoy Cabernet.
Decoy was founded in 1985 by Dan and Margaret Duckhorn and is part of The Duckhorn Portfolio; Dana Epperson makes the wines. Where Decoy California is blended from all over the state, this wine is entirely from Alexander Valley.
For the current vintage, the winery describes dark fruit, ripe blueberry, violet and blackberry with a touch of cardamom and clove, then soft tannins, full body, juicy boysenberry and a long finish. It's 14.5% alcohol.
For a few dollars more than Decoy California, you get a wine from one place with more depth, so it's the better pick for a dinner.
Decoy recommends decanting it before serving. It goes well with grilled lamb, a strip steak or mushroom dishes.
More bottles from the county are on our Sonoma County wine page, and our full Cabernet Sauvignon is a click away. Pick it up at our Brooklyn store or get same-day delivery in Brooklyn, Manhattan & Queens.
