This is Dom Pérignon Vintage 2015 in a limited tribute to Jean-Michel Basquiat. The packaging draws on his 1983 painting In Italian, and the label fuses Dom Pérignon's shield with Basquiat's crown. It launched in the US in October 2024.
The wine is the same as the standard 2015. That year was one of Champagne's longest droughts, and strict selection cut the crop to about 70% of normal. The blend is 51% Pinot Noir and 49% Chardonnay, and the dosage is very low, about 4.5 grams per liter. Dom Pérignon only makes vintage wine.
The house describes roasted cocoa, lime blossom, jasmine, aniseed and cardamom, then peach, nectarine and citrus on a full yet delicate palate.
If the box doesn't matter, the regular Dom Pérignon 2015 is the same wine; for a collector or an art lover, buy the Basquiat edition.
Serve it at 10 to 12°C with caviar or lobster. Critics give it 20 years or more.
