El Coto de Rioja is part of the Barón de Ley group, and it's the same house behind the well-known El Coto Crianza. El Coto Blanco is its white Rioja.
The fruit comes from Rioja Alta and the estate's Finca Carbonera vineyard, which the winery says sits at 840 meters, the highest in DOC Rioja. The producer lists Viura, Verdejo and Sauvignon Blanc, while several retailers list it as 100% Viura. The grapes are chilled right after picking under inert gas, pneumatic pressed and fermented cold with selected yeasts, in stainless steel according to Vinissimus, with no oak mentioned. It's dry.
The winery describes a very fresh wine with white-fruit aromas leading to fresh citrus on the palate.
Against Marqués de Riscal Rueda Verdejo 2024, El Coto Blanco is a lighter, unoaked white Rioja that costs less; for an under-$10 weeknight white, choose El Coto.
The winery recommends serving it at 7 to 8°C (45 to 47°F) with grilled or baked fish and seafood.
