Italicus Rosolio di Bergamotto Liqueur 750ml

Italicus brought rosolio, an old Italian liqueur style, back to bars when Giuseppe Gallo launched it at the Savoy in London on 1 September 2016. The base is Calabrian bergamot and Sicilian citron, with chamomile, lavender, yellow rose, lemon balm and gentian. It is made at Torino Distillati in Moncalieri and bottled at 20%.

Citrus comes first, then rose and lavender, with a light gentian bitterness that keeps the sweetness in check and a medium-long finish.

Buy it over St-Germain when you want the floral note to lean toward citrus instead of elderflower. It is the better bottle for a spritz that tastes of Earl Grey rather than orange.

The classic serve is the Italicus Spritz: one part Italicus to two parts Prosecco over ice, garnished with three green olives. It also lifts a Martini made with gin.
