John D. Taylor's Velvet Falernum 750ml

Velvet Falernum is the Barbados original: a rum-based liqueur flavored with lime, clove, almond and ginger, made by R.L. Seale & Co. at the Foursquare distillery and bottled at a gentle 11%. The name goes back to John D. Taylor of Bridgetown.

It is syrupy and sweet, with clove and lime on the nose and lime acidity balancing the sugar. It is a mixer, not a sipper.

Tiki recipes that call for falernum mean this bottle. Buy it for a Zombie, a Corn 'n' Oil or a Rum Swizzle; nothing else on our shelf gives that clove-and-lime layer.

Haus Alpenz, the importer, uses it in the Zombie, in swizzles and in the Bajan Legend. Pair it with an aged rum and fresh lime, and use it by the half-ounce.
