The Faiveley family has made wine in Nuits-Saint-Georges since 1825, over seven generations. Erwan Faiveley runs the domaine with his sister Eve, and it covers about 120 hectares.
This is the domaine's regional Bourgogne AOC Pinot Noir, with Joseph Faiveley's signature on the label. One retailer says the fruit comes mainly from plots in the Côte de Nuits, Côte de Beaune and Côte Chalonnaise. James Suckling's review reports about six months in casks previously used for premier and grand cru wines. It's 13% alcohol.
The domaine describes a beautiful ruby color, fresh red fruit on the nose and palate, and a rich, well-ripened wine with fine, rounded tannins and good structure. James Suckling calls it quite a serious wine for the humble appellation, with plenty of red cherry fruit.
Against Domaine Drouhin Oregon Pinot Noir 2024, Faiveley is the regional red Burgundy and costs less; for classic Bourgogne at the table, choose Faiveley.
The domaine gives an ageing potential of three to five years. Serve with roast chicken, mushroom risotto or charcuterie.
