K Vintners Royal City Syrah 2017 750ml

K Vintners is Charles Smith's winery in Walla Walla, Washington, and Royal City is its single-vineyard Syrah from the Stoneridge Vineyard near Royal City, farmed by the Davis family. The 2017 carries the Columbia Valley appellation.

Stoneridge's soils are sandy loam, cobble and Quincy fine sand over caliche and basalt. One retailer describes the 2016 as made from whole clusters and aged 27 months in French oak, 60% of it new. Wine.com describes 2017 as a cool, rainy spring and a moderate summer with long hang time.

James Suckling calls the 2017 fantastic, with dark berry, tar, black pepper and stone. Seattle critic Owen Bargreen calls Royal City truly one of the iconic Washington wines.
