Myungjak Bokbunja is made by Kooksoondang, a Korean traditional-liquor company best known for Baekseju. The company's registered address today is in Dunnae-myeon, in Hoengseong County, Gangwon Province.
The wine is made from bokbunja, the Korean black raspberry (Rubus coreanus), the fruit behind the Korean wine style known as bokbunja-ju. This one comes in a compact 375ml bottle, a half-size format that suits two people or a small table.
Made from black raspberries rather than grapes, it belongs with the fruit wines, and it makes a good bottle for anyone curious about Korean drinks beyond soju and makgeolli.
Against Choya Umeshu with Fruit, Myungjak Bokbunja is the berry-based Korean option in a smaller bottle; for a black raspberry wine from the maker of Baekseju, choose Myungjak Bokbunja.
Chill it before pouring and serve it in small glasses with Korean barbecue, fried chicken or a plate of fresh fruit and cheese after dinner.
