Maison Louis Jadot was founded in Beaune in 1859, and its Beaujolais-Villages is one of the best-known Gamays in America. The US release carries a vintage on the label every year.
It's 100% Gamay from the Beaujolais-Villages appellation in northern Beaujolais, on granite and sand. The importer, Kobrand, says Jadot adds grapes from the ten cru villages to the blend. The grapes are picked by hand in whole bunches, given an extended maceration for color and tannin, and raised in stainless steel, with no oak.
The importer describes it as crisp, juicy and fruit-forward, with ripe red berries and good weight on the palate.
Against Louis Latour Bourgogne Gamay, Jadot is lighter and costs less; for an everyday Gamay, choose Jadot.
Serve it a little cool, around 16°C. The importer suggests light red meats and grilled or roasted white meats, and it's an easy match for roast chicken, charcuterie or Thanksgiving turkey.
