Maison Louis Jadot is one of the great négociant houses of Beaune, with vineyards across the Côte d'Or, the Mâconnais and Beaujolais. Its Mâcon-Villages comes from the Mâconnais in southern Burgundy, where Chardonnay is the main white grape.
It's 100% Chardonnay, fermented and aged in stainless steel tanks to keep the fruit and freshness, with no oak. In Britain the same wine is sold as Mâcon-Villages Grange Magnien.
The house describes ripe fruit from the region, crisp apple, a soft, creamy texture and fresh acidity.
Against Louis Latour Mâcon-Lugny, Jadot is a blend from across the Mâcon villages rather than a single village, and it costs a little less; for an everyday white Burgundy, choose Jadot.
If you usually drink California Chardonnay, this is the unoaked side of the grape: lighter, cleaner and better with delicate food.
Pair it with white meats, fish and shellfish, salads, or mild, creamy cheeses. Serve it chilled.
