Marie Brizard Anisette 750ml

Marie Brizard founded her liqueur house in Bordeaux in 1755, and this anisette is its signature. The recipe uses green anise with more than ten other plants, fruits and spices, and it is bottled at 25%.

It is clear and very sweet, with a bold, long licorice-candy flavor and a palate-coating texture. It is thick and long on the palate, so a small measure is enough for a drink. It turns cloudy with water like other anise spirits, and the sweetness makes it gentle with ice.

Anisette is sweeter and lower in alcohol than Ricard or Ouzo 12. Buy it for drinks and desserts where you want anise and sugar together, or as a splash in coffee.

Serve it over ice with cold water, add a little to an espresso, or use a few drops in baking. A small amount goes a long way.
