Mezcal Unión Uno is a joven (unaged) mezcal from Oaxaca, Mexico, blended from cultivated espadín and wild cirial agave and bottled at 40% alcohol. It comes in 375ml and 750ml bottles.
Mezcal Unión was launched in 2011 to buy mezcal from small family producers in Oaxaca, and Diageo agreed to buy its parent company, Casa UM, in 2021. Uno blends eight-year-old espadín with 14-year-old wild cirial (Agave karwinskii).
Mezcal Unión describes pear, apple, mint, wet earth and wood with light smoke. Wine Enthusiast (Kara Newman) gives it 92 points, calling it ripe and fruity, with lychee, banana and a mild jalapeño note on the finish.
Its fruity, gently smoky style makes it an easy first mezcal and a natural fit for cocktails.
