Michter's US*1 Single Barrel Straight Rye Whiskey 750ml

Every bottle of Michter's US*1 Rye comes from one barrel, picked on its own and bottled without blending. Michter's fills its new barrels at 103 proof, well under the legal limit, and heats its warehouses in winter so the whiskey moves in and out of the charred oak more often.

The distillery is in the Shively neighbourhood of Louisville, Kentucky, though the name goes back to Pennsylvania and 1753. The mash is 53% rye with corn and malted barley, and the rye is sheared before mashing. At 84.8 proof it's one of the gentlest straight ryes we sell: butterscotch, cherry and cinnamon, a soft, buttery palate and a medium finish with a little pepper.

This is the rye for someone who drinks bourbon and finds most rye too sharp. If you want the same whiskey with the volume turned up, Michter's makes a Barrel Strength version.

Sip it neat or over one large ice cube; it gets mellower still on ice.
