Hibiki Japanese Harmony Whisky 750ml

Hibiki is Suntory's blended whisky, and Harmony is the everyday bottle in the range. It brings together at least ten malt and grain whiskies from Suntory's three distilleries, Yamazaki, Hakushu and Chita, aged in five kinds of cask, including Japanese Mizunara oak.

The 24 facets on the bottle stand for the 24 seasons of the old Japanese calendar. In the glass it's gentle and polished: rose, lychee and a little rosemary on the nose, honeyed sweetness with candied orange peel and white chocolate on the palate, and a soft, lingering finish where the Mizunara shows as a sandalwood note. It's bottled at 43%.

For a first Japanese whisky to sip, this is the one most people start with. For highballs, the cheaper Toki does the job; for the older, deeper Hibiki, look at the 21 Year.

Try it neat, on one cube, or as a highball with very cold soda and a twist of lemon.
