Yamazaki 18 is the older brother of the 12: malts aged at least 18 years, with a large share from sherry casks and Mizunara, Japanese oak, from Japan's first malt distillery near Kyoto.
It's deep and autumnal. Raisin, apricot, café au lait and Mizunara on the nose; blackberry, strawberry jam and dark chocolate on the palate; a long, spicy, smooth finish. It's bottled at 43%. Supply is tight and the price reflects it.
Buy it for a milestone or as the bottle that anchors a Japanese whisky collection. For the same house style at an everyday price, the 12 Year is the one.
Pour it neat, at room temperature, into a tulip glass. Give it a few minutes; the sherry fruit and incense come up as it opens.
We carry it in the 750ml size. The rest of the range is on our Yamazaki page. More bottles are under Japanese whisky, and the rest of our whiskey is a click away. Pick it up at our Brooklyn store or get same-day delivery in Brooklyn, Manhattan & Queens.
