WhistlePig began on a former dairy farm in Shoreham, Vermont, in 2007, and this 10-year-old, 100% rye was its first whiskey. Dave Pickerell, its first master distiller, built it from rye he sourced in Canada, at the Alberta Premium distillery, and it set the pattern for the brand: older and stronger than most ryes, and priced to match.
It's a small-batch straight rye bottled at 100 proof. An all-rye mash gives big spice, and ten years in oak adds caramel and a touch of smoke. The finish is long, drying and grippy.
This is the WhistlePig to sip. For cocktails, the six-year PiggyBack does the same job for about half the money.
Pour it neat or over one large cube, and give it a few minutes before the first sip; the spice settles as it opens.
We carry it in 375ml and 750ml. More bottles are under rye whiskey, and the rest of our whiskey is a click away. Pick it up at our Brooklyn store or get same-day delivery in Brooklyn, Manhattan & Queens.
