Exhibits at the Museum
Paper is one of the most intimate ways to discover an artist’s vision for their final work. Rembrandt to Picasso: Five Centuries of European Works on Paper celebrates historical drawings and prints on paper that capture the merging of the visible and imagined world. Featured artists include Francisco Goya, Vincent van Gogh, and Edgar Degas.
While it has roots in Nigeria, One: Egúngún calls Brooklyn home. The exhibit examines the life of a 20th-century masquerade dance costume. Made up of more than 300 hundred textiles from Africa to Asia, the egúngún comes to life during festivals honoring familial ancestors.
This year marked the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall riots in San Francisco, which was a tipping point for the Gay Liberation Movement in the United States. Nobody Promised You Tomorrow: Art 50 Years After Stonewall commemorates the events with profound contemporary art. The exhibition features the work of 28 LGBTQ+ artists born in the wake of the 1969 uprisings.
Brooklyn Museum Events
Open Wednesdays through Sundays, the Brooklyn Museum offers a wide range of daily events for visitors. The most common are gallery tours. Visitors get a free tour of special exhibitions while receiving artistic insights from local experts and guides.
