Tequila Ocho Extra Añejo La Estancia 2022 is a 100% blue Weber agave tequila from a single estate in Arandas, in the highlands of Jalisco, Mexico, bottled at 40% alcohol in a 750ml bottle.
Tequila Ocho was founded in 2008 by Carlos Camarena and Tomas Estes as the first single-estate tequila: each batch comes from one field, named on the label with its harvest year. It is made at Los Alambiques (NOM 1474) from overripe agave cooked 48 hours in brick ovens, crushed with a roller mill, fermented with wild yeast in wooden vats and distilled twice in copper pot stills. The extra añejo is aged three years in ex-American whiskey barrels that have already held tequila several times. Heaven Hill, the importer, says it contains only agave, water and wild yeast.
Ocho's extra añejo typically shows cherry, dark chocolate, salted caramel and prune, then cooked agave, coffee, caramel, honey and orange peel; each field and year varies a little.
