Avión launched Reserva 44 in New York in December 2013 with 744 cases worldwide, each bottle numbered and signed by founder Ken Austin; Pernod Ricard now owns the brand. Estate agave grown at 7,000 feet is roasted 72 hours in brick ovens. The tequila ages 43 months in oak, then a final month in small barrels that are turned every day.
Avión promises warm vanilla, ripe fruit and a touch of spice. VinePair (Tim McKirdy) gives it 94 points for its complex texture and spice from both oak and agave.
