Brooklyn Kura Lake Effect Junmai Nigori Sake is a cloudy, unfiltered-style sake brewed in Brooklyn, New York, at 14% alcohol. Brooklyn Kura was founded by Brian Polen and brewmaster Brandon Doughan, who went into full-time production in 2018 at their brewery and tap room in Industry City.
Lake Effect is a junmai, made only from rice, water, koji and yeast, using Calrose rice polished to 60%. It is blended with amazake, a sweet mixture of rice, koji and water, and named after lake-effect snow, where cold air meets warm water.
Expect a silky texture, a light body and gentle sweetness, with soft rice and cream notes.
If you usually drink clear sake, nigori is the richer, creamier style: shake the bottle gently so the rice sediment mixes in. Serve it well chilled with spicy food, fried chicken or fruit desserts.
Shop more sake and soju, sake and rice wine, with pickup at our Brooklyn store and same-day delivery across NYC.
