Tequila Ocho Barrel Select Añejo Ferrand Cognac Cask 2024 is a limited-edition 100% agave añejo tequila from Jalisco, Mexico, bottled at 44.4% alcohol (88.8 proof). It is a collaboration between Tequila Ocho and Ferrand Cognac.
Like every Ocho release, it comes from a single named field, here Rancho Las Raíces, harvested in one year. Maestro tequilero Carlos Camarena, the fifth generation of his agave-growing family, aged it for 12 months in barrels that previously held Ferrand cognac.
Expect cherry, cinnamon and cajeta-like caramel on the nose with herbal and earthy notes, then salted caramel, cooked agave, ginger and coffee on the palate, with a mineral edge.
If you usually drink bourbon-barrel añejos, the cognac casks add a drier, fruitier, more elegant character.
Sip it neat or with a drop of water in a tasting glass.
