G4 Reposado is a 100% agave tequila from Jesús María in the highlands of Jalisco, Mexico, aged in oak and bottled at 40% alcohol in a 750ml bottle.
G4 is made by Felipe Camarena, a fourth-generation tequilero, at his El Pandillo distillery (NOM 1579). The agave is cooked about 28 hours in brick ovens, crushed by "Felipestein," a mechanical tahona, fermented with the family's yeast and distilled twice in copper pot stills using a mix of rainwater and spring water. It is aged about six months in used George Dickel whisky barrels.
Expect tropical fruit, dried herbs and fresh agave, with a very light barrel touch. Wine Enthusiast (Kara Newman), VinePair (Tim McKirdy) and the Beverage Testing Institute all give it 94 points. Tequila Matchmaker verified G4 as additive-free in 2020.
It is a reposado for agave lovers: the oak stays in the background. Compare it with G4 Blanco.
Sip it neat or with a drop of water.

Wine Enthusiast
Kara Newman notes a "zesty jalapeño aroma" over sweet tomato, a savory palate of mint, basil, jalapeño and green pepper, and a black-pepper finish softened by vanilla. Good for sipping or mixing. |

Beverage Testing Institute
The Beverage Testing Institute finds floral, fruity aromas of grilled pomelo, white chocolate, pastry and white pepper, then a velvety palate and a long finish of salted cashews, caramel, cinnamon and marzipan. It calls it "the best of both worlds," with añejo-like depth and blanco-like brightness. |

VinePair
VinePair notes it matures in former George Dickel whiskey barrels and arrives "full of funky, tropical fruit character," with dried herbs and fresh agave on the nose and a rich, full-bodied palate. A favorite in a Tommy's Margarita. |
