ArteNOM Selección de 1146 Añejo is a 100% blue Weber agave tequila from the town of Tequila in Jalisco, Mexico, bottled at 41.3% alcohol in a 750ml bottle.
ArteNOM names each bottle for the distillery that made it. NOM 1146 is Tequileña, where master distiller Enrique Fonseca works mostly with agave grown around his highland hometown of Atotonilco El Alto. The agave is cooked in an autoclave, crushed and distilled twice in copper pot stills. The tequila spends about 14 months in French oak casks that held Cabernet Franc from the Loire Valley, then another 14 months in American oak that held Canadian whisky or Tennessee rye.
Skurnik notes butterscotch, citrus, baking spice and vanilla, then toffee, walnut candy, custard, orange zest and dark chocolate. The Beverage Testing Institute gives it 92 points, calling it decadent and absolutely delicious. Skurnik lists it as additive-free.
