ArteNOM Selección de 1414 Reposado is a 100% estate-grown blue Weber agave tequila from Arandas in the highlands of Jalisco, Mexico, bottled at 41.2% alcohol in a 750ml bottle.
ArteNOM, founded by Jake Lustig, names each bottle for the distillery that made it. NOM 1414 is DestilerÃa El Ranchito, run by the Vivanco family, who have grown agave around Arandas since at least 1929. The agave grows at 5,400 feet, is cooked 36 hours in brick ovens, crushed with a roller mill and fermented in open-air tanks with wild yeast from the estate's own agave leaves. It is distilled twice in copper pot stills and rests about four months in third-fill ex-bourbon barrels.
Look for chaparral, roasted sweet potato, salted vanilla cookie, allspice and mild chile. The US importer, Skurnik, lists it as additive-free.
Its older sibling is ArteNOM Selección de 1146 Añejo.
Sip it neat to taste the highland agave.
