La Gritona Reposado Tequila

La Gritona Reposado is a 100% agave tequila from Valle de Guadalupe in the highlands of Jalisco, Mexico, bottled at 40% alcohol in a recycled-glass 750ml bottle. It is the brand's only expression.

It is made by master distiller Melly Barajas at a small distillery (NOM 1533) run almost entirely by women. Agave aged eight to ten years is cooked in brick ovens, crushed with a roller mill, fermented with wild yeast in the open air and distilled twice. It is then rested in used American whiskey barrels, chosen so the wood stays in the background and the agave leads.

It has a pale straw color with fruity, slightly funky aromas, then caramelized fruit, ginger and pepper. Wine Enthusiast's Kara Newman named it a Best Buy among its Top 100 Spirits of 2021.
