ArteNOM Selección de 1579 Blanco is a 100% blue agave tequila from Jesús María in the highlands of Jalisco, Mexico, bottled at 40.7% alcohol in a 750ml bottle.
ArteNOM, founded in 2010 by Jake Lustig, bottles tequila from selected distilleries and names each one after the distillery's NOM. This one comes from Felipe Camarena's El Pandillo (NOM 1579): hillside agave grown at about 6,200 feet is cooked 30 hours in stone ovens, crushed by a mechanical tahona, fermented in stainless steel with the fibers and rainwater, distilled twice in copper pot stills and aerated before bottling.
The importer describes pastry dough, spring rain, spearmint, white pepper and fresh chile. VinePair (Tim McKirdy) gives it 95 points, calling it perfumed, surprising and enticing, and the Beverage Testing Institute 94. Tequila Matchmaker verified it additive-free in 2020.
It comes from the same distillery as G4 tequila, made to ArteNOM's own specifications, so the two make an interesting side-by-side.
