Clase Azul San Luis Potosí is a joven (unaged) mezcal from Estación Ipiña, a high-desert village in the state of San Luis Potosí, Mexico, made from Agave salmiana and bottled at 43% alcohol in a 750ml decanter.
Launched in 2024, it is the third mezcal from Clase Azul México. The salmiana is steam-cooked in vaulted stone ovens, crushed in a Chilean mill and distilled twice in copper stills. The deep red decanter honors the Huachichil people, and its cap is embroidered by hand with coloured yarn.
Clase Azul describes cooked agave, caramel, green chile, sweet fruit and wildflowers. Falstaff gives it 96 points for ripe chile peppers, fresh herbs and green tomato, with an exciting finish.
It is the highest-rated of the three Clase Azul mezcals; compare Durango and Guerrero, or see all Clase Azul.
Sip it neat, slightly chilled, in a small copita.

Falstaff
Falstaff finds ripe chili peppers such as habanero and bird's eye on the nose, with freshly chopped herbs and green tomato. The palate is herbal and savory, with the chili notes returning in a softer form, and the finish is long and full of aroma. |
