Clase Azul Guerrero Mezcal 750ml

F95

Clase Azul Guerrero is a joven (unaged) mezcal from the state of Guerrero in southern Mexico, made from wild papalote agave (Agave cupreata) and bottled at 42% alcohol in a 750ml decanter.

It is the second mezcal from Clase Azul México. The papalote is roasted for three to four days in a pit oven with volcanic rock and guamúchil wood, then distilled in a wood-fired copper alembic. The jade-green decanter has a cap lacquered by hand in the Olinalá tradition and topped with a hummingbird; each cap takes artisans up to ten days.

Clase Azul describes grapefruit zest, cut wood, rosemary and toasted peanuts. Falstaff gives it 95 points for a demanding, complex bouquet of steamed vegetables, pepper brine and a hint of smoke.

It sits between the fresh, grassy Durango and the chile-bright San Luis Potosí; see all Clase Azul.

Sip it neat, slightly chilled, in a small copita.

Falstaff

Falstaff calls the bouquet "demanding" and complex, with steamed vegetables, pepper brine and a hint of smoke, then a savory, vegetal and strongly peppery palate and a finish of great length and complexity.
