400 Conejos Espadín is a joven (unaged) mezcal from the Tlacolula valley of Oaxaca, Mexico, made from espadín agave (Agave angustifolia) and bottled at 40% alcohol in a 750ml bottle.
It is made by Casa Cuervo and imported by Proximo Spirits. The agave is roasted three to five days in earthen pits lined with volcanic rock, crushed by a horse-drawn stone tahona, fermented in wooden tubs and distilled twice in copper pot stills.
400 Conejos describes campfire and ash with faint ripe fruit, then fresh wood and sweet cooked agave, and a smoky finish.
It is one of the best-selling mezcal brands and a good first mezcal at an everyday price.
Use it in a mezcal margarita or a mezcal negroni, or sip it neat with orange slices.
