Johnnie Walker Double Black Blended Scotch Whisky

Double Black starts from the Black Label recipe and pushes it towards smoke. Johnnie Walker added more peated west coast and island malts and aged part of the blend in heavily charred oak barrels, and it carries no age statement.

The result is darker and bolder than its sibling: peat smoke and charred oak on the nose, then dried fruit, vanilla and a little tropical sweetness, with a dry, smoky finish. It's bottled at 40%.

If Black Label feels too polite, this is your bottle. For the real thing from the islands, our peated Scotch page has the single malts that give blends like this their smoke.

Try it in a smoky highball: a tall glass of ice, 1 1/2oz Double Black, very cold soda and a strip of orange peel. The char works surprisingly well with ginger beer too.
