Chappellet Mountain Cuvee Napa Valley Red Blend 2024 750ml

Chappellet was founded in 1967 by Donn and Molly Chappellet, who helped establish Pritchard Hill as a mountain growing area in Napa Valley. Mountain Cuvée is the estate's approachable blend, an entry point to a winery whose flagship is its Signature and Pritchard Hill Cabernet.

It's a Bordeaux-variety blend built on Cabernet Sauvignon, using some of the estate's own grapes plus purchased Napa fruit. One retailer lists the 2024 as 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Merlot, 16% Malbec, 13% Petit Verdot and 5% Cabernet Franc; the winery hasn't published its 2024 sheet. It's 14.5% alcohol.

The winery's notes, shared by retailers, describe red currant, cassis, cinnamon, vanilla, clove, forest floor and wild sage, with sweet toasty oak, plush tannins and red and black fruit.

Against Dominus 2019, Mountain Cuvée costs a fraction and is ready now; for a weeknight Napa blend, choose Mountain Cuvée.

The winery says it's made for near-term enjoyment. Open it with burgers, grilled steak or roast chicken.
