Frontera is the value brand of Concha y Toro, the Chilean wine company. Wine Spectator reported that Concha y Toro created the name in 1999, when it repackaged its inexpensive varietal wines under the Frontera label. The word means "frontier."
This bottling is 100% Pinot Noir from Chile's Central Valley (Valle Central), made as a non-vintage wine. It's 12.5% alcohol, and this 1.5L magnum holds the equivalent of two standard bottles, which makes it a practical pour for a group.
Concha y Toro describes its Central Valley Pinot Noir as light-bodied, soft and rich, with aromas of deep dark-red fruits.
Against Bota Box Pinot Noir 3L, Frontera comes in a glass magnum and costs less up front; for a party bottle under $10, choose Frontera.
Serve it slightly cool with pizza, burgers, roast chicken or a cheese board. It's an easy pick for a backyard dinner, a casual get-together or a weeknight when several people want a glass of red.
