De Martino is a family winery based in Isla de Maipo, Chile, named Chilean Winery of the Year in 2011. Gallardía is its Cinsault from Guarilihue, in the Itata Valley of southern Chile, about 22 km from the Pacific.
It's 100% Cinsault from dry-farmed, ungrafted bush vines about 35 years old, grown on granite soils and plowed by horse. The producer's sheet describes native-yeast fermentation and a long maceration, and the wine is aged in stainless steel with no oak. It's 12.5% alcohol. These details come from the producer page and its 2019 sheet.
The producer describes bright ruby color, red and dark cherry, violet and light spice, and a fresh palate with soft tannins. It calls the wine light, juicy, easy to drink and very versatile with food.
Against De Martino Alto de Piedras Carmenere, Gallardia is lighter at 12.5% alcohol and about half the price; for a fresh, food-friendly weeknight red, choose Gallardia.
The producer suggests serving it at 15°C, with no decanting needed. Its sibling is De Martino's clay-amphora Viejas Tinajas Cinsault.
