Napanook is the second wine of Dominus Estate in Yountville, and it's named for the Napanook Vineyard, where George Yount planted vines in 1838. The same historic site grows Dominus.
The 2023 is 92% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Cabernet Franc and 4% Petit Verdot, picked 7 to 18 October. The importer, MMD USA, says it aged 20 months in French oak, 20% new. Only 3,500 cases were made, and it was released in spring 2026. It's 15% alcohol.
The estate calls the 2023 silken, vibrant, earthy and layered, with cacao, citrus zest and pomegranate. Winery notes say the blocks are chosen for bright fruit, soft tannins and early maturity.
Against Opus One 2022, Napanook is ready sooner and costs a fraction as much; for a first-rate Napa Cabernet blend to open this year, choose Napanook.
Jeb Dunnuck says it will keep for 10 to 15 years. Serve it with steak, lamb or roast duck.
