Luigi Bosca was founded in 1901 and is owned by the Arizu family. De Sangre, meaning "of blood," honors the wines the family kept for its own gatherings.
The 2023 is 100% Malbec from the Luján de Cuyo DOC, and UK merchant Wine Republic notes it was one of the first Argentine wines with a Designation of Origin. It goes through malolactic fermentation in barrel and ages 12 months in oak, then at least 6 months in bottle. The Jamaica Observer specifies French oak and describes high-altitude vineyards on clay and alluvial soils.
Wine Republic describes deep red-violet color, red fruit and sweet spice, fine, gentle tannins and soft smoky oak on the finish. The Jamaica Observer adds plum, blackberry, cocoa and licorice.
Against Viña Cobos Bramare, De Sangre has shorter oak aging and costs less; for a polished Malbec for a weeknight asado, choose De Sangre.
The Jamaica Observer suggests asado, lamb shank and mushroom dishes. Open it half an hour ahead and serve it just below room temperature.
