Nickel & Nickel Quicksilver Vineyard Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon 2023 750ml

Quicksilver Vineyard is on the western Rutherford bench, along Bella Oaks Lane. It's named for the old quicksilver (mercury) mines in the Mayacamas Mountains just to the west.

Gil and Beth Nickel, who also restored Far Niente, founded Nickel & Nickel, and its first vintage was 1997. The winery makes only single-vineyard, single-variety wines, and this one is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. The vines grow in well-drained loam with minimal irrigation, and about 2,500 cases were made of the 2023.

Wine Enthusiast noted blackberry, plum skin, licorice and violets.

For the same house's Rutherford style with more age, try the C.C. Ranch 2022. Choose Quicksilver to keep for a few years.

Give it time or a long decant; Wine Spectator suggests drinking from 2028. Serve it with a strip steak or lamb.
