Bread & Butter is a California label made by winemakers Linda Trotta and Matt Shuplock, and its Chardonnay is the wine that gave the brand its name: a deliberately rich, round, buttery style.
The label says California. The wine is built for a creamy texture rather than crisp citrus, with oak spice in the background, and it's 13.5% alcohol in recent vintages.
The winemakers describe it as creamy, with vanilla bean, almond and a touch of tropical fruit, then balanced acidity and savory oak leading into a long, smooth finish.
It sits between two familiar bottles. Against Butter Chardonnay, Bread & Butter is a little lighter and costs less, while it's richer than Kendall-Jackson Vintner’s Reserve. If you like the buttery style but want something easy for a weeknight, choose Bread & Butter.
Serve it lightly chilled, not ice-cold, so the creamy texture shows. It's good with lobster rolls, roast chicken, mushroom risotto, corn chowder or pasta in a cream sauce.
