Brugal was founded in 1888 in Puerto Plata, in the Dominican Republic, by Andrés Brugal Montaner, and Añejo has been part of the range since 1952. It is a blend of molasses rums from column stills, aged two to five years in ex-American whiskey barrels. Dominican rules require rum to be aged at least one year.
It is dry and light, with caramel, almond and a little coconut, and lime and molasses on the finish.
Choose Añejo if you find most gold rums too sweet; it is drier than Bacardi Gold. For a richer sipper with a sherry-cask finish, step up to Brugal 1888.
Serve it in a Cuba Libre with cola and fresh lime, or over ice with a twist of orange. It also works in a rum sour.
It comes in 750ml, 1L and 1.75L bottles. More gold and aged rums are under rum. Pick it up at our Brooklyn store or get same-day delivery across NYC.
