Código 1530 Reposado is a 100% blue Weber agave tequila from Amatitán in the Tequila Valley of Jalisco, Mexico, bottled at 40% alcohol in a 750ml bottle.
Código 1530 was founded in 2016 by Ron Snyder, Federico Vaughan and George Strait, and Pernod Ricard bought a majority stake in 2022. It is made at a private distillery (NOM 1616); the agave is cooked in an autoclave, crushed with a roller mill, fermented in stainless steel and distilled twice. The tequila rests six months in French white oak barrels that held Napa Valley Cabernet, charred by hand at the distillery. Código says it adds no chemicals, flavorings or sweeteners.
Código describes bright, sweet agave with vanilla, toasted caramel and cocoa powder. VinePair (Tim McKirdy) gives it 97 points, calling it spicy, layered and remarkably smooth, and Wine Enthusiast (Kara Newman) 90.
The wine-barrel aging gives it a softer, rounder style than most reposados.
Sip it neat or on ice.
