Frontera Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot 1.5L

Frontera is the everyday range from Viña Concha y Toro, Chile's largest winery. This Cabernet Sauvignon-Merlot comes in a 1.5-liter bottle, the same as two standard bottles.

The grapes come from Chile's Central Valley. Two retailers list the blend as 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Merlot at 12.5% alcohol. The winery says the wine rests about four months in stainless steel and concrete tanks rather than oak, which keeps it fruity and soft.

The winery describes cherry and chocolate aromas and a smooth, easygoing, well-rounded palate.

Against Ménage à Trois, Frontera is lighter and less jammy, and the big bottle costs less per glass; for a party, choose Frontera.

The winery suggests it with spicy takeout, such as Mexican or Chinese food. It also works with burgers, pizza and grilled sausages. Once opened, recork it and keep it in the fridge for a few days. At under $10 for the big bottle, it's an easy pick for a crowd.
