Harveys Bristol Cream comes from John Harvey & Sons, the Bristol sherry house, which created it around 1860 as a richer version of its "Bristol Milk". The brand calls it the best-selling sherry in the world and in the US.
It's a Cream sherry from DO Jerez-Xérès-Sherry, blended from Fino, Amontillado, Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez wines aged in soleras for 3 to 20 years. The grapes are 80% Palomino and 20% Pedro Ximénez, and the wines mature mainly at the El Brigadier bodega in Jerez. It's 17.5% alcohol, with 138 grams of residual sugar per liter.
The producer describes a mahogany color with antique-gold glints, aromas of raisins and a hint of caramel, and a smooth, creamy palate that highlights the fruit of the Pedro Ximénez and the complexity of the Oloroso.
Against Lustau Los Arcos Amontillado, Harveys is sweet and creamy rather than dry and nutty; for an after-dinner pour, choose Harveys.
The producer suggests serving it chilled or over ice with an orange twist. Try it with blue cheese, fruit tarts or fruitcake.
